The last week has been very fun. We have visited 4 companies and the Santiago stock exchange. The company visits were very interesting to me. All the visits were in English except of Codelco Ventanas which was all in Spanish so it had to be translated into English. The next day we got to visit Viña Indómita which is a private winey which make a medium priced wine. We got a full tour and got to taste some wines. Many people were not a fan a a good wine since most of us normally drink cheap wine. After the winery we visited LAN and learned about LAN’s program for having one of the best airline flits. They allowed us to walk around the tarmac and see the planes that were being serviced. Friday we visited Centauro and learned about the canning process. This was my favorite visit because the guy giving the tour was very open and answered all are questions. He told us about their pricing strategies and how they plan to run their business. Since it was the fall there was not processing going on they were just packaging the tomato in cans. At the end of the tour they gave us stewed tomato in a can and then they gave us some tomato paste. After the plant we went to the farm/spa for 5 hours. They had free beer, water, and soda they also had free food. We got to hang out with Chilean students and lay out by the pool we also played beer pong with them. That night we went to a barbecue that the Chilean had for us. They had free pisco and soda with hotdogs. This weekend we had a two free days on the first day we went into valpo and took a boat ride around the harbor then we took the incline up a hill and did some shopping. We then walk around the city and show the local culture and took the subway back to vine del mar. on Sunday we walk to a local market and bought some crafts. I then walked to see the Easter Island statue and then walked along the ocean to see the flower clock. Yesterday went to isla negro which was one of Pablo nurtus house. The house remained me of falling water.

Final note: the hotel is bad for 3 day we have had no hot water. When we finall got hot water back we had no cold water which does not sound like a big deal. But showering with water so hot that you burn your skin is not fun at all. Finally there has been no wifi and we had to go McDonalds to use the internet.

Today we we got to sleep in and left for the day at 10. at the university we got a talk from a Pitt grad about doing business in Chile. We then had lunch at the cafeteria then walking around for a couple of hours. We got to see a rugby match and then played basketball with some students. They thought we would be good at basketball because we were American. Then we got a lunch for a prof. on Chile business economics. The only problem was that they lecture for people with MBA and who knew economics. We then took another salsa class but the teacher did not speak English. She knew that we did not know what we were doing so she had fun with us. We went out to dinner and I order by pointing at the words on the menu.

Salsa dancing takes good footwork

We then took a public bus to the university the bus cost 460 peso. This made it difficult because we all only had big bills so we had to find change. At the university we got a tour. The school campus felt like Penn even thought the school was in the city when you got on campus there was so much green space. The school was a lot more technical then American schools we saw so of their labs they do hands on manufacturing. We got some lecture on the culture this included talks about famous author and musicians and their influence on Chile. We eat lunch at the main dining room. Where you get in line and there is only one choice to eat. After lunch we took a bus tour of the city and show many place we can visit on are days off. After eating at the university again we took a salsa dancing class which was very difficult. The directions are giving in Spanish and you need very good footwork to be able to do it. After dancing we came back to the hotel then went out to a club. We were almost the only one there but it was a Monday.
